While reading “The Osage Firebird,” I saw how the structure of the text, led to one another. Meaning, when the author, Sudipta Bardhan, wrote this passage she made it connect really well to each other. While reading the passage, I observed how she did it. She did it by adding one detail in one section, then that one detail becomes the main idea for the next section, or for any section. I saw the connection of each section near the end, since in the beginning of the passage, I didn’t see any. The author, Sudipta, started out in the first major section by writing about Betty Marie’s childhood. How her grandmother told her stories of fire spirits and animals that could talk when she was little. Not only that, but how she spent part of her childhood at an Osage reservation in Oklahoma. Also, Sudipta wrote about how Betty Marie saw herself as a “typical Indian girl, shy, docile, and introverted,” but ballet made her come out of her shell. When she was four years old, she got into ballet lessons, that set her mind to become a ballerina. In the first to third sections…

    The Firebird Finale

Track1: The Firebird, finale 1. The first few minutes of this piece are pianissimo, and I must say I enjoyed the extreme softness in the beginning of the symphony. As I was listening I noticed the crescendo throughout the piece until about one minute and thirty four seconds. Then the orchestra was playing pianissimo again for just a few seconds. I then heard another crescendo. I think this lasted throughout the rest of the symphony. I did notice the end of the piece went decrescendo for just a…

The Music of Patterns In Proust Was a Neuroscientist, Jonah Lehrer describes how artists of the past foretold the neuroscience discoveries of the future. The composer Igor Stravinsky deconstructed classical music, introducing dissonance with his ballet The Rite of Spring. Stravinsky was a modernist before his time; and, like its creator, The Rite did not conform to the audiences’ expectations, rather it pushed the boundaries of music. He realized music had never been a creation of nature, it…

Do you know what it is like to overcome barriers when you aren’t sure how to? Even if you’ve never had to, it is still helpful to know how, not only how to do it, but how to do it the right way. From our two options of inspirational stories the better choice is “The Osage Firebird” by Sudipta Bardhan over “A Life Painting Animals” by Diana Childress. Sudipta Bardhan’s text explains the hardship of barriers in life and to continue to strive as your own person while overcoming them. The text also,…

After listening to these two pieces of music I felt I could connect more to Firebird. The beginning with the French horn and then the strings grabbed my attention. I felt drawn to the sound. Then when the violins begin to play I felt very relaxed and peaceful and then even more so when the flute are added in. I began to wake up as the music grows louder, it then tappers off for a minute till the violins and flutes start to play at a higher octave. When the whole orchestra begins to play…

For this first discussion I have chosen "Stravinsky: The firebird, Finale" and "Duke Ellington: The "C" Jam Blue". These two differed in a variety of things. For "Stravinsky: The firebird, Finale" I felt like it was more like orchestra music while "The "C" Jam blue" was more like jazz. I felt like the pitch for " The Firebird Finale" was more high than "The C Jam". Also the dynamics for " The Firebird Finale" fluctuated a lot in tone. For the instruments I heard the violin , flute, horns, piano…

estranged from each other. But throughout American Beauty, we see red roses or the color red, and in those moments its when the character needs love the most. For example, the front yard is decorated with red roses, and in a sense those red roses are a cage created by Carolyn Burnham, and as the movie progresses we get to see how Lester tries to break free from carolyns control. Another thing we see is that is he buys a red 1970 Pontiac Firebird, which represents his long term desire for the…

The first piece of music I listened to for this assignment was Lohengrin, prelude to Act III composed by Wagner. The song was written for a scene for a wedding between a hero and heroine. The instruments in this song include a full orchestra and it is an orchestral piece. In my opinion, the song had a variety of feelings and sounds. For example, there is one part where it is mainly or entirely woodwinds. During this section, the music sounds very peaceful and light. After a while this section…
