    Final Stages of a Group Forming a group is a selective process in which a leader chooses individuals who will benefit from the new behaviors and interventions displayed. The common practice is that, a leader sets the tone of how the group will move forward, so being credible is very critical. On the other hand, a counselor can’t be held responsible for the outcome of the group if the proper techniques were utilized. The leader is open, trusting and exerts a willingness to model behaviors that he wants the group to display. Group members in turn develop a report with the leader that they reciprocate this behavior which prompts them to share their experiences. When preparing for a group, the termination process (final stage of the group) should be inclusive. It is the leader’s decision by addressing termination throughout group session or setting aside time in the last couple of sessions to wrap things up. The final stage of a group should be approached with just as much energy as forming a group. During this stage, members reach a point where they experience behavior skills that allow them to terminate relationships with positive endings.
