Thornton Dial was an innovative artist who incorporated found objects such as trash and common household items in his pieces. His work often explored dark themes, ranging from war to racism to homelessness. Having grown up in poverty in Emelle, Alabama, Thornton did attend art school; therefore, he was often dismissed by his peers as an outsider or folk artist. I use my finger to rotate the dial clockwise then release it only to start again until all the numbers are dialed. What a slow pain in the ass. The large handset feels foreign in my hand and the…

One is that I certainly do have to agree to the fact that the cinematic details in Dial M for Murder were definitely on point since the superb Alfred Hitchcock directed it.…

Dial 000 – an Analysis The short story Dial 000 takes place on a cliff in Lover’s Leap, Sunshine Coast in Australia. In the short story it is not said when the story takes place, but since the character is calling with a mobile phone it is most likely after the 1990’s. The setting is quite important to the story, because if the character had called from somewhere else, his words would not be quite as serious. The setting is not described in the short story; it is only mention by one of the…

As a child, I recall playing on a rotary phone and spinning the dial wheel repeatedly as I imagined I was calling my grandmother. Eventually, the technology in telephones changed and the invention of the push button phones came about; however, they were not near as fun to play on as the rotary dial. The next step in the evolution of the phone came in the form of a hands-free unit, and eventually, the cell phone. This new technology has been instrumental in the growth of the telecommunication…
