    the rising action Alcée comes riding in asking for a safe haven from the storm, the storm intensifies and rain starts to fall upon his arrival, as he holds her in his arms as the storm rages outside (Chopin). This paraphrase summarizes the rising action in the story, and how the storm is in direct comparison to it. As the story’s plot progresses as does the intensity of the storm. Then as the story reaches its climax the storm is at its most powerful. The growing power of the storm is shown in the quote “They did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms” (Chopin 3). As Alcée and Calixta get into bed with each other and make love the storm beats at the shabby house. The climax is the most intense part of the story and is also the time when the storm is at its strongest. In conclusion, the symbol of the storm In addition, the storm also organizes the plot structure of the falling action. After the climax of the story the storm slowly starts to fade away. According to plot structure the story builds up to the climax then fades away as it moves towards the conclusion. This pattern is also followed by the storm. The fading away of the storm is shown in the quote “ The rain was over; and the sun was turning the glistening green world into a palace of gems.
