Ever since entering Dr. Berdahl’s chamber music class, I have grown more found with working with other instruments from outside of my comfort zone. I really like the idea of sight reading and being able to accompany other instruments to create wonderful music together. This semester I would like to recommend just two pieces of music for Chamber ensemble from the same composer, to focus on working together and learning the appropriate style. Franz Schubert, January 31, 1797 - November 19, 1828, was brought into a world where music was changing rapidly. Baroque music slowly drifted away around the year 1750 and now the Classical Era was greatly being more favored by the main public. Schubert wrote various melodies in all of his music, slowly…

Upon attending the International Chamber Music Festival Concert, a certain ecstatic vibe could be felt as the performers walked on stage with their musical instruments. The virtuoso’s performed in pieces that contained trios, duets, and quintets; showing the concentration they required when listening to each other. When working on Chamber Music, much of the melody jumps around from instrument to instrument, show casing various solos and much of the instruments having to coincide with each other…

For the genre I would consider these piece as a string quartet. And for the historical era I would have to put it with romantic and twenty and twenty first century era. This was my first live concert that I’ve ever attended so is was my first time hearing a violin and a cello live. The way I would describe…

The Courtship of Mr. Lyon and The Bloody Chamber are both based on fairy tales written by Angela Carter. Both of these stories are thought to be inspired by author Charles Perrault’s writings Beauty and the Beast and also Bluebeard. Both fairy tales have similar plots, the usual “good feeling” plots, where a girl is on a mission to find her true love and encounters many men not fit for her along the way and also other trials and tribulations to eventually get to that one knight in shining armor…

The Bloody Chamber is a novel filled with short stories. The short story I chose to read was the first story of the book, The Bloody Chamber. It is about a seventeen year old girl marries a rich old man and claims to have definite love and affection towards him. Her mother expresses dissatisfaction at the marriage but does not tell her daughter not to go through…
