Every procedure that a nurse does should be based off evidence-based practice. At the facility that I am currently working at, it is easy to find resources about evidence based practice. However, one thing that obstructs the facility ability to implement evidence-based practice is that the facility has two educators that work with our department but they are both per diem and are not there often. It is how the facility keeps the staff up to date on all the new policies and procedures and all the new information about diseases. It is a place where a nurse can take online classes to further his or her knowledge. There is also a website that the hospital pays for a subscription to that is called UpToDate. It is a website that a nurse is able log on to and looks up the most current information on procedures, medication, and diseases. I personally use this website at least once a shift. When I was first starting out as a nurse, I was constantly on the site looking up anything that I did not know. It is a very helpful tool to…

A century ago, the humankind had no idea about tumor necrosis factor (TNF); however, physician William B Cooley was able to demonstrate the principle of anti-tumoral response in vivo as early as in 1891 (1,2). He escalated the idea of anti-tumoral response based on his observation of remission of lesions in patients injected with a mixture of dead Streptococcus pyogenes and Serratia marcescens bacteria (1, 2). Due to the lack of understanding of mechanism behind this observation, it was not…

However, the stance is widely controversial as it is derived from assumptions that have minimal support and consensus data such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental…
