Subject: Are You Your Brother’s Keeper? Genesis 11:26-32 11: 26-32 Tarah was seventy years old and he had three sons, Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran was the father of Lot, Milcah, and Iscah. Haran dies in the land of Ur of the Chaldees. Abram married Sarai and Nahor married Milcah his brother Haran's daughter. The family left Ur and traveled Northwest along the Euphrates River Valley to Haran and then southwest toward Canaan this was the trade route to missing the Arabian Dessert which was very dangerous as it still is today. Proposition: Tarah was the head of the family even though God gave Abraham the vision he remained faithful to his father until his death, then he continued the mission God had given him. How many of you grew up with the head of the family being your grandfather and then your father but no decision overrode what your grandfather said. You see some of our four fathers followed the path of the Bible for that was all they knew, so the family fell in line with whatever the head of the family said for it was like the gospel. Introduction (Antithesis): Stories explain what natural words cannot, stories have power, they teach, motivate, and sometimes inspire the listeners. Jesus spoke in parables and sometimes told stories to his listeners. Genesis 13:5-13 Lot was traveling with Abram whom God had given the vision to, he also had sheep, goats, and cattle his own family and slaves he had grown rich like Abram. Their servants began to quarrel among each…

The awareness that Abram started his journey to Canaan with his wife Sarai and family alongside him seems to oppose verse 1 of chapter 12. In chapter 12:1, Abram leaves his father’s house to go to an unidentified land which is later identified in verse 5 as the land of Canaan and again later explained to Abram in verse 7. (Hebrew 11:8) If this was the case then the verses aren’t chronological order. The more realistic approach would have been to speak of the two stages of Abrams journey as the…

Rachel, I enjoyed reading what you wrote about Maureen Dowd. Before starting this week’s assignment, I had not realized how many well known people had committed plagiarism. In the case of Ms. Dowd, it is disappointing to think that she would commit plagiarism whether it was intentional or not. I know strive to be very careful when reading and preparing to write a paper, that I cite all my sources. I remember one time of having to leave some wonderful information out of a paper because I…

Abram was called a “father is exalted” before God changed him to be called Abraham (Gen. 17:5 NKJV), “father of multitude”. Abraham was the son of Terah, a pagan idolater, who lived at Ur of the Chaldeans in Mesopotamia, no biblical evidence that showed that his ancestors were the true worshippers of God. Abraham was called by God to live his family, his father’s house, and all his relatives to go to the unknown world (Gen. 12: 1 NKJV); he obeyed willingly and without any hesitation. God made a…
