no exception to this rule of thumb, as deer-vehicle collisions (DVCs) are a growing problem in the US and reflect the displacement of deer populations. Over 1 million DVCs occur in the US annually and result in the loss of human life, human injury, and considerable financial costs resulting from the vehicle damage (Gunson et. al. 2011). Interventions such as increasing driver awareness have had no considerable impact on DVC rates. For the ninth year in a row, the highest-risk roads in the country are in West Virginia, where drivers face a 1 in 44 chance of colliding with a deer (State Farm 2015). Trends between DVC’s are well-documented in certain high-risk areas with respect to spatial patterns, but research is lacking in the areas of temporal and ecological patterns. The purpose and aim of our research project is to track deer behavior along West Virginia’s Route 41 and establish trends between the locations of deer sightings and pre-recorded factors such as vegetation, weather, and time of day. By filling such a knowledge gap, we hope to draw long-reaching conclusions that ideally inspire the implementation of more deer-warning signs and other preventative measures. Literature has proven that deer warning signs make these types of collisions less likely (Found et. al. 2011). Such data can be compared with deer sightings. Our research aims to answer the question: under which factor(s) do DVCs occur most often? In the end, this research will allow for precautions to be…
The measurements of our world strive to quantify the quality of our lives. The scales we use to measure ourselves and how we feel, fail to understand the concept of life itself. The tears of joy felt by a mother; the symphony of silence held by a survivor; the loudness of a murmur spoken as a prayer. Life is a composition, led by a melody, woven piece by piece, tied by our hopes and colored by our sorrows. Like darkness is the absence of light, pain is measured by the absence of happiness.…
Injustice and the Importance of Being a Man in A Lesson Before Dying Justitia, the goddess of justice, is portrayed with a blindfold holding scales and a sword, but she, in applying her scales and sword, has never been colorblind in the U. S. 1[1] Ernest J. Gaines accuses the legal injustice against the black population through an innocent convict, Jefferson's death in A Lesson Before Dying. However, Gaines penetrates the fact that the legal injustice is rather a result than a…

Identified as Brodmann’s area 22. Type: Fluent Severity: Deficits in comprehension, repetition, and naming. Other Characteristics: Speech is characterized by phonemic and semantic paraphasias and neologisms, or jargon aphasia. Patients are often unaware of their language disorder. Reading and writing are also impaired (Papathanasiou & Coppens, 2017). Conduction Aphasia Associated with lesions affecting the left temporal-parietal junction. It has been proposed that conduction aphasia results from…
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a hinge joint that connects your jaw to your skull. You have two to connect both sides of your jaw to your skull specifically to your temporal bone. This allows you to be able to use your jaw in simple tasks such as eating or talking. Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is known as any kind of pain dealing with the temporomandibular joint or with the muscles located around the joint (WebMD). It is not quite clear what specifically causes, but specialists…
surveys come in many formats, with the Likert scale being the most preferred. The Likert scale is a quantitative tool for issuing questionnaires in a survey. It employs the method of rating a participant’s response on a scale rather than just getting a single, straight up response. Likert items are the individual questions that have the answers on a scale. The Likert scale is the…
Likert-type or frequency scales use fixed choice response formats and are designed to measure attitudes or opinions (Bowling, 1997). It is an evidence based survey that uses a 5 or 7 point scale that participants can use to express opinions and the intensity of their opinions. Likert scale survey was generated and 60 surveys were placed in the teachers’ mailboxes with a note explaining the purpose of the needs assessment. In order to receive more responses, the survey was anonymous. This allowed…
For patients with temporal lobe epilepsy there is a high resistant to medication. This leads to a risk of memory impairments and mood disturbances. Long-term this leads to quality of life impairments and an increased risk of death. Due to the resistant to medication surgery is recommended for patients with TLE. Anteromesial temporal lobectomy (AMTL) is the most common surgery for the treatment of patients with TLE. AMTL is performed in both children and adults. AMTL is done in 30-40% of surgery…
objects have both temporal and spatial parts. While the spatial parts remain, the temporal parts can change. In other words, objects persist through time and change by having temporal parts. In an effort to understand why perdurantism exists, I will describe the circumstances leading to its creation, which will include a description of the elements of change and the problem of change. Then, I will provide a description of an objection to perdurantism. The aim of this paper is to strengthen…
