    In George Orwell's book 1984 it describes a totalitarian society where every aspect of the people's lives who live in the city Oceania, are controlled by the government. In the novel he describes many devices used to watch the people, and bring fear into them so that they wouldn’t want to disobey the government. The government also uses many tactics to bring fear into the people of Oceania as well. Many people argue that we have technology similar to the ones used in the novel, and that our government is constantly watching us as well.After the discovery made by Edward Snowden that the government is keeping tabs on us, many people began to argue that our government is similar to the one in 1984. I believe that the technology used in the novel is similar to ours to a certain extent, some examples being cameras and cell phone taps. Here are some examples how our technology is similar to the technology used in 1984. The first example would have to be the many cameras placed in all public places that constantly watch people at all times. In the book it talks about how “people are always under surveillance with cameras”. And in one of the articles read it also talks about how long beach “ linked 400 cameras citywide” to try and help with all the crime in the city . Though many people do not believe this and just believe that the government is just trying to keep an eye on us, But this is similar to the many cameras placed in oceania, to watch what the people do .
