    In the poem “ The Tall-Tale Heart,” Edgar Allan Poe creates the conflicted character of an unnamed narrator through indirect characterization. Using the components of dialogue, actions, and the characters internal thoughts, Poe illustrates a story about fear and guilt and reveals that the human conscience is very strong. Poe’s uses of indirect characterizations aids to develop the character’s motives and reactions towards the murder.
