A key cultural boundary for consideration is communication, specifically principal language (Daniels et al., 2015, p. 67). Within Tanzania, principal languages include English and Swahili (Ethnologue, 2016b). Conversely, Mozambique has the principal language of Portuguese, due to its historic Portuguese rule (Ethnologue, 2016a; SOS Children, n.d.). Considering our company uses English as its principal language, we may encounter spoken and written language barriers, which may impede operations, if the company selects Mozambique for operation expansion (Daniels et al., 2015, p. 51). Furthermore, given that people in these two cultures tend to dissimulate their emotions, managers will have to maintain open dialogue in order to gauge their effectiveness, as communications may lack the body language cues often used within our own culture (Daniels et al., 2015, p. 69; Hofstede Centre, n.d.a).
