Summer Days & Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories Summer Days & Summer Nights is the first anthology I’ve ever read. I didn’t know what to expect, all I know is I’m not a short-story person. Fortunately, it turned out better than what I anticipated it to be. For me, it’s split into three categories. There are four stories that struck me, and gripped me, followed by four stories that are ordinary, but doable, while the remaining four stories doesn’t belong to this collection. 1. Head, Scales, Tongue, Tale by Leigh Bardugo – 3 stars This have the same story telling as The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, except I like the former much better. It’s a combination of contemporary mythology in a small town country. 2. The End of Love by Nina Lacour…

The Faces of Love William Shakespeare’s “A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream” is, like many of his works, a play whose theme is centralized around love. In this particular play Shakespeare approaches love from several different angles or different types of love. There is a paternal love like that of Egeus and his daughter Hermia or even between Titania and the changeling child she cares so much for. The reader also experiences marital love as between Theseus and Hippolyta as well as the love of Oberon…

things must end, however the power of love defies this logic. Love is an eternal presence. Even after heartbreak, love never truly fades away. True, many interpret love differently, however its existence is constant even long after its ending. Dan and Shay’s song, “Summer of 19 You and Me”, differs from Lord Byron’s poem, “When We Two Parted”, in rhetorical elements and both poems express separate romantic situations. However, while the two entities are very different, the sustained presence of…

-6- On Monday, I go to my first day of summer school. When I arrive, there is my old teacher, Mr. James. I say, “Hello, Mr. James! Lucky day! Guess what? It’s me! Francisco!” Mr. James says, “Yes, I see that. Please sit down. It’s time for our very first test. You did do the pre-reading, right?” I say, “I did not do the pre-reading. Or the reading. naturally to them, they could read through pages and pages without the slightest flaw. This made me question if there was something wrong with me or if I would ever be able to read as elegantly as others seemed too. If I wanted to be like the other kids it was going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part, so over the summer of fourth and fifth grade I did nothing but eat and breathe books. I was determined to start fifth grade and not be afraid of when it was my turn to read out…

I walked out of the bathroom, tears still wet on my face. “Brooke! Are you alright?” one of my friends asked. I was better at that moment than I have been in almost a year. In the summer of 2015, which was the same year I started high school, ballet was the center of my life. Two of my closest friends and I attended to an intense summer program for over a month. We were constantly together dreaming of future careers in ballet. In our free time we watched videos of the New York City Ballet. I…

Although I collected many stuffed animal tigers throughout my life, I have always kept Bone Tiger. My interest in tigers continued to grow as I got older. I grew up in Medway, MA., which is about 30 minutes from Southwick’s Zoo. Southwick’s Zoo is one of the few zoos in Massachusetts that has tigers at its facilities. Every year in elementary school, my class would go on a field trip to the zoo. This was the one field trip I consistently looked forward to each year. It gave me the chance to…
