Forcing one foot in front of the other I rip my feet free of the oozing sludge I could feel every muscle, every sinew in them being wrenched apart My enemy was everywhere the once beautiful countryside is now a desolate wasteland, torn and ripped apart from years of ceaseless and senseless war. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I spot it, my haven in a world twisted and violent .A simple foxhole, a den of safety for anyone trying to escape from the rigors of war. This hole in the ground was my oasis a light in a now dark and colourless world. Dropping to my knees I roll myself untidily into it, safe at last. Lying here a sense of calmness overwhelms me, gently caressing me until my body gives in and I drift off to sleep. Yet the effects of war still had it’s vice like fingers around my throat even here in this my sanctuary. I kept founding myself drifting between sleep and consciousness, my thoughts continuously returning to the grisly horror that comes with war . Eventually, my emaciated body begins to heave, gripped by uncontrollable spasms it desperately tried to expel the demons of war: hate, mistrust and, cruelty. Hunched over and gripped by intolerable pain, I'm suddenly aware of the need to dry retch. It was during one of those vain attempts to purge myself from the evils of war that I heard him. ‘ ‘Get out of there” he hissed between clenched teeth. Each word was punctuated with such hate and venom, they felt like blows. My knees buckled and I stumbled…

Suddenly Gone Suddenly gone is a thrilling, true tale of how one man, with very little help, murdered three girls in their mid twenties. Richard Grissom was the maintenance man at the apartment complex of the murders. He had a master key to everyone’s room and just let himself in, thus, there were no signs of forced entry. The girls were Joan Butler (24), Christine Rusch (22), and Theresa Brown (22). There was a fourth and fifth attack, Michelle and Terri, but Michelle got away and Terri was…

Suddenly I Became Me I started to figure out who I was during my lifetime. There are plenty of funny and terrible instances for me that made me find out who I was. I can name three instances from the top of my head like me picking my dad’s lock to get in the fridge when I was about four, when my biological mother decided to give me and my brother away when we were five and she wanted nothing to do with us, and when I went to my first summer church camp for the first time. I believe that these…

Ryne Garrison Suddenly I Became Me Looking back now, it is easy to see that I was a very different sort of kid growing up. I would never tab being different as a bad thing, but normality was never exactly my strong suit. It’s easy for other people to look back on all the goofy, strange things kids do, and casually brush these incidents off with “he’s just being a kid.” Thank goodness that I can now look back and use this excuse for myself, because when I was growing up, there was a lot of…

Suddenly I Become Me There are many incidents in my life that have stuck with me till this day. Some have helped me, some have broken me, and some have defined me. I just moved in with my mom the summer before third grade. We lived in the town of Cushing, Oklahoma, in a one-bedroom house that was somewhat in someone’s backyard. The house…

Suddenly I Became Me Memories are something that everyone cherishes. I cherish my memories because they remind me of whom I was and where I came from. Those memories show me when I started to become me. I started to develop key features of who I was at a young age. I was not going to wear a dress, I was going to play in the mud, and my best friend would not always be nice. My mom will tell anyone how hardheaded I can be, and I can agree to that. I can do so, because my earliest memory is…

The second time I went tubing I was at big bear lake for the second time that month to go tubing. I nervously walked down the pier and to the boat. Me, Chen, Kayla, and Noah were all going tubing together. We all got on the zipper up life jackets and got on the boat. As we sat down, the boat started to make rumbly grumbly noises of the engine turning on. I was nervous because my last tubing experience had been a total disaster. I thought back about it and then suddenly I flashed back to that…

It was a cold night in Linesville Valley. The sky was a very dark blue and calm, with a few sparkling stars. There were no birds chirping, no cars roaming the old streets. Downtown, many people were in the large Quentin’s Movie House, watching the monster movies Them! and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. Suddenly, a sound was heard. It wasn’t some cheap fifties’ gimmick; it was something real. It was heard by everyone in town. Families tried to adjust the antennae of their static-stricken sets.…
