The Machine Stops” is a story that tells about a mother and son, Vashti and Kuno, living in a dystopian society where machines controlled everything and were made to care for an individual in isolation. Food and water is dispensed from the machine and all communication including personal, professional, and educational is done through a monitor. In this society, no one is allowed to leave his or her room without a temporary permit. If they did something that was deemed illegal, has punishment was to be forced to live outside where air is deadly. This story can be heavily connected to today’s society easily. Technology has advanced so far in the past decade, changing the way people interact with each other. For example, students in the past would need to go to a library if they were to research, potentially talking to other students in the same field and expanding their knowledge through physical interactions; today students every where prioritize online research, locking themselves in isolation with only just a computer, much like the society Vashti and Kuno live.
