means to be alive.” I agree with him that everyone should read this novella, I absolutely loved it and I believe it to be a must read for anyone young or old who enjoys reading. It is more relevant to today’s society than when it was first published over a hundred years ago. Maybe Forster visited us after humanity had to move underground to escape global warming, and this is the story of the fate that awaits us. But then again, what wondrous unconventional ideas are currently being written and dismissed concerning the future that seems too far-fetched, incredible, or bizarre to ever be accomplished by humans? What will one day be thought of as prophetic in a hundred years, the way we think about the technological prophecies of The Machine Stops that were laughable at the time it was written? Possibly it is humans colonizing space? It could be being able to travel in time forward and backward, or maybe putting our minds in robots and keeping death at bay forever. Only time will tell which one of these impossible ideas will freak out a future generation of…

Forster uses…

I had got use to having the skytrain doors shut in my face. No matter how confused or scared someone looked, no one had the time to stop or help a lost person. The ride back home seemed to be longer than usual and I could not help but notice the nervous group of kids trying to figure out the directions. Looking at them reminded me of the time when I first used the skytrain without any adult supervision. I vividly remember the struggle my little cousin and I faced just to get back home. It…

It was a warm, lively afternoon where everyone was donning on summer clothing- tops and shorts. I am sitting in a sheltered bus stop near Hitchcock hall, a place where students are walking to class or waiting for bus. From where I am sitting, I could hear the chatters of peers, the beeping sound from the traffic light and the sound of vehicle’s engine. I was the first one to sit on the benches provided in the sheltered bus stop while some of my peers were standing near the marked sign. When…
