On Wednesday, 9/7/16, UNCW held its ‘Concert on the Commons Series. I had the opportunity to enjoy this event during my lunch break between classes at the fisher center. The ‘Naughty Feats’ were preforming down at the amphitheater. During most of the concerts they sung covers and towards the middle of the concert they began to show some of their original works. They were pretty enjoyable. I am not certain if they were a well know small local band or if they were just a student band that formed…
to be a dancer. I relate to Melanie’s use of, “…sweat, tears and sometimes blood,” (15 Truths About Being a Professional Dancer) because I have experienced similar hardships. Dancers must also be encouraging to others for progress to occur on the dance floor. A team will succeed or fail together, and failure will be because of the lack of support and motivation given to teammates from one another. The encouragement given to a teammate could lead to their own determination to complete a difficult…
did not stop her from giving Liriana tiresome and strict training. After those few years of harsh training, she knew how to perform on the dance floors with grace. In her later years when she was about 8 years old, her parents let her have a little bit of freedom because of how well she was when doing ballet. One day while she was practising with her other dance partners, she spotted a small group of people who were outside of their region come to visit. Liriana never met anyone outside of her…
Cheerleading is usually categorized as something that is not a sport because it does not look “intense” or “tough” enough to be labeled as one. I always wanted to give it a try which is why I agreed to join a cheerleading team with my friend during the time that I was in middle school. She was extremely flexible since she had been doing gymnastics for a long time. I on the other hand, did not participate in any activity as such that favored my flexibility which is why once I eventually started…
Legally Blonde, the musical, has proven that the amount of talent we have here at CHHS is great. The cast and crew dedicated hours to make this event happen, and it paid off. Director Mrs. Kerry Rupe, did a stunning job coordinating the show as well as Kevin Gasio as the musical director, Bob Erbst, as the set director, Mel Taylor as the producer and Kolbi-Rae Edrey and Kerry Rupe as choreographers. The star of the show, Mia Roberts, plays the lead character Elle Woods who admitted that playing…
Have you ever been late to go to school at night because you were working? Band practice was scheduled one night after school from 6-9. It slipped my mind when I was at my job. I accidentally showed up late for practice. I walked into first hour excited about practice that night. I wanted the percussion to win every competition we went to, since that’s how it was last year. The band teacher announced that there would be practice that night and for everyone to show up on time. I…
I have always had a love of the arts, but it wasn't until I was a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz that I knew I wanted to be an actor. Up until that point, I had just wanted to sing, but being up on that stage made me want to do musicals for the rest of my life. But what really made me want to pursue musical theatre was that it has been the only way for me to truly express my emotions. When I was younger, I was made fun of as a little kid. So when I was in the Sound of Music, I was surrounded by a…

The tarantella is described as a zealous dance full of upbeat movement. It is a dance mainly preformed by women to arouse the love of their partner. In the play Nora dances the tarantella to please Torvald; this symbolizes a side she does not normally show. Torvald states, Helmer:” Slower, slower!” Nora: “I can’t do it any other way.” Helmer: “Not so violently, Nora!” Nora: “This is the way.” Helmer : “ No, no- that is not a bit right.” Nora: “Didn’t I tell you so?” (Act 2 Nora, Torvald).…
The Fall In 2010, I was eight years old. I was a dedicated student, and gymnastics was my passion outside of school. I was a good gymnast but my height crippled me more times than one. I was a gymnast that was five feet two inches at eight years old. My practices were long and usually quite rigorous. It was Tuesday evening when I went to my gymnastics studio. Practice was almost over and our last skill was the beam. I was never fond of the balance beam, I would always be too tall to be able to…
