Nyroca Riding Stables is an agistment centre, and riding school for horse lovers of all ages. Throughout the day different social groups arrive, whether they are riders of the riding school, teenagers or adults. Their scheduling appears to be synchronised, and practised. At the beginning of the day when the sun is still low in the sky, and a light breeze is rustling the tree tops are when the newcomers begin to arrive. Seemly unsure as they stand next to cars with parents, while hoping they spot an instructor or a friend they know, before bouncing off towards their saddled riding companion for the morning. With their specialized riding outfit, helmet, whip, and strict posture heading up the the arena - a large area of sand encompassed in a white wooden fence - they begin their training to become an elite. Parents, or siblings watching on from provided seating and shielding their eyes from the rising sun, and the disturbed sand as the horse trots past.…

I was standing there thinking what am I going to do with this horse? I have tried everything that I’d known! This horse was basicly a bucking bronco. There was only one thing left to try, and that was the vet. Good thing we have an appointment tomorrow. As morning arrived I went to the barn at 6am, since our appointment at 7. The horse thankfully loaded the trailer with very little troubles. As I arrived at the vet office, I found a parking spot right away. As I got out of the truck the horse…

“You can get off now Callie” I slid off and Caramel jumped a little bit. Caramel Is a big scaredy cat, She hates new things and things she has seen at the barn one hundred times before. I walked caramel back to her stall to un-tack her. She goes straight to her food bowl like always. I took off her bridal and I heard the clinking of metal on her teeth as I took the bit out of her mouth. It felt slimy but I did not hold on to it for long. I slid her halter on to her head and walked her to the…

It all started when I was a little girl, I had always wanted a horse. So when I was 8 I started to take lessons but that only lasted for a few years, hard times hit and I wasn’t able to afford to ride anymore. I was too young to be able to help around a barn so for the time being I had to give up my love of riding and my time with horses. That was until I turned 16 and I was able to start volunteering with horses. When my parents split up and it sent me into a depression, I dreaded getting up…

Hoof Print I have been around horses ever since I can remember because my mom loves horses. I took lessons every week to become a better rider with my horse, “Poe.” Carol, my new instructor (appositive), told me to try to not use stirrups when riding him. We started off walking around the ring without any stirrups, which was easy, so she told me to pick up a trot and move faster. I did that, but what happened was the stirrups ended up bumping Poe in the side, which made him think that I was…

Big Horse, Small Patients "If you fall and shed a tear. I'll sell the horse." My dad has said this to me ever since I was seven years old, that is when he first taught me to ride a horse. There has been many times that I have wanted to cry but choose not too. Just last year, my little sister, Chloe, wanted me to teach her how to ride a horse. We did not know what the outcome would be but I told her that I would teach her. She asked me to teach her when we were feeding the…

" Ewww! What happened to your arm? ", questioned Austin. Like every Sunday, I get up, get ready for church, eat lunch, and go see the horses because we had them boarded in Woodville and we could not go and see them everyday. We lived in Scottsboro Alabama and in the city you are not allowed to have farm animals, that is why we had to board them. But this Sunday was a little different. We decided to ride our horses today. I love riding horses, it makes me feel free. Our horses are Tennessee…

Trampled It was a cloudy Saturday morning in May. I was at the barn getting ready to have my horseback riding lesson just like I had done every other Saturday morning for the past eight years. Although this morning was different, instead of riding one of the regular horses, my instructor had me scheduled to ride a thoroughbred named Storm. This horse was still green and had not been fully trained on how to do much except race. Sure enough I got Storm groomed and tacked up despite his constant…

Personal Essay: I walk through the doors and feel the sand squish under my boots. A refreshingly chilly breeze blows through the arena with the smell of rain. In my right hand is the rope, folded over twice so that it doesn’t drag. The clic-clack of the horses hooves die away as he walks in behind me and I can feel his warm breath on my elbow. This is what I wait for all week. I walk the horse into the center of the arena and start to warm up. We back up a few steps, I put pressure behind his…
