caused him to be engulfed in anger. Cholly’s only thoughts were hatred. Hatred is something awful and ugly and since Cholly only felt hatred he was thought of as ugly. However, Pauline had not noticed it at first on page 116 it says “Instead of ignoring her infirmity, pretending it was not there, he made it seem like something special and endearing.” Cholly had made Pauline feel special something she never experienced growing up and only one of the factors that made her fall in love with Cholly. However that love did not stay for to long because the ugliness that Cholly had had spread to Pauline, “He begin to make me madder than anything I knowed, and I couldn’t keep hands off him” (pg 123) the once sweet young couple had turned into a abusive one and the cause of this is Cholly’s ugliness, Cholly’s hatred. culture’” (30). This terrifying notion of the adman being a cult leader shows how detached he is from the product he is selling because he identifies himself more with the brand. Is this not similar to spreading the word and trying to get others to believe a product you are selling?
