regret about my organization, it would be that it felt out of order. However, when I did perform the speech I believe it came together nicely. The delivery of my final Speech was something I was not proud of, early on I had a few hiccups with my words and in a way I felt that affected the rest of my speech. I will say that facing adversity I felt that I was able to deliver my closing stamen on a high note and was able to re-gain the attention of my classmates. I think it was a good lesson for myself to experience first hand, everyone messes up early on, however if the closing is strong it is a great way to bring your audience back in. In the beginning of the semester I would have never believed that I would be so relaxed while speaking in front of an audience, but that is exactly how I felt after the first few speeches. When I went up the first few times my palms were sweaty and It was almost as if I could feel the eyes of all my classmates on top of me. By the time speech 4 came around I felt so clam walking up to the podium that I never broke a sweat. I was able to deliver my speeches with poise and a clear mind. I think that Monroe’s Motivational Process works with every topic, its an amazing tool to have for and public speaker. The process is done in a way that the speaker is able to build up to the finish, it’s the prefect way to end the speech on a high note and in many ways motivate and persuade the audience. I knew once I had the right topic,…

I said visual aid because looking back at both of my recordings, I explained my topic/idea but I knew that some things I said were not things that my audience were familiar with. But while speaking, with the use of my visual aid, the topic that I was talking about finally made sense. Also, I said my visual aid because it made my speech very organized. I used my visual aid to help me out with the speech in order to keep it fluent and on time. I also said that my eye contact with my audience was a…

and mispronouncing some words, which I think was mostly due to nerves and the fact that I was the only person speaking that day. This is an extremely minor problem that I’m sure would be different if I wasn’t so nervous, but it’s definitely bothered me the most. One final issue that I normally have is that I tend to say “you guys” rather than “you all,” which I think I successfully tackled in this speech. There was one instance where I felt like using the term “you guys,” but thankfully I…

Another key learning moment I had was learning that I should let go and not let the fear of public speaking hold me back. I believe learning that helps improve confidence. The reason for that as the books explains that it is a reason to channel all the nervous energy you have into a great speech. For example, if I compare the informative speech with the speech before it which was the family history speech I could see improvement with confidence up in the front of the room and also I wasn’t as…

Viewing yourself speaking on video is never a particularly good experience, at least for me, because you notice all of the things you don’t notice when you were in the act of speaking or doing whatever was being filmed. However, watching yourself is a good way to notice your strengths and weaknesses as a public speaker. I know that I tend to look at myself more critically when I watch the recordings, but it was also interesting to see what I did and what I should change/keep the same for the…

Growing up in a small town, I was never the one to stand out in a crowd. I would usually stand in the distance, while my little brother and sister shined to be spontaneous like always. To me, public speaking has always been one of my biggest weaknesses in school. Because of this I would not describe myself as shy, rather anxious to preform a speech. This year one of my main goals is to make my weakness one of my strengths. Public speaking is something that I will not be able to not hide from…

always start out giving your speech by maintaining a solid eye contact with your audience. You don’t want to appear to keep looking at your material stumbling around, because the audience will form a negative opinion. You want to make sure that you always try to remain friendly with them; they will become more comfortable with you if you are smiling rather than frowning the whole speech. Just be relaxed and pay attention to how your audience is receiving your information and make adjustment…

have always been really shy and especially quiet in class. Oftentimes I would know the answer to a question or have an idea, but not matter how hard I tried, I could not bring myself to raise my hand. I wish I had improved on this skill because in the upcoming years, it will become crucial for me to participate in class discussions. Another goal that I did not meet was improving my nonverbal delivery skills. While speaking, I have always stood very still in one place. There were some instances…
