continued to pass and he began a family of his own. However difficult starting up the farm proved to be, my grandfather’s will and desire to maintain the farming lifestyle allowed him to push himself forward. When asked about the toughest aspect of farming, he responded with, “being at the hands of mother nature. You never know what you are going to get. If you get no rain, then you have no income. If you have hail, then you lose your crop.” As well as mother nature, he noted having two paychecks a year makes this profession difficult. Similar to anything in life, there are upsides as well. The best part of his work is harvesting, or to “reap what you sow.” Upon my questionable look at this statement, he explained planting is also called sowing. I knew farming was taking chance on nature. I also knew starting up would not be easy by any measure in the beginning. However, I did not realize the amount of money required for starting up a farm. This method excludes 7-8 ploughing of land preparation and save diesel, labour cost. Thus wheat is sown earlier than in conventional method. In conventional method the land preparation delays wheat sowing date. The coincidence of the thermal heat with the wheat reproductive stage cause poor grain filling and reduce yield by 1- 1.5% /day (after November 20). The residual water of previous rice crop is conserved and utilised due to zero-tillage. The first irrigation takes less time as the water…
