Many people in this community even face institutionalized discrimination by the government. This deep-rooted problem has been neglected for quite some time, but lately many organizations have been fighting to rectify this issue. One of them is a non-profit called the Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC, who for several decades has been a stakeholder in litigating for the LGBT community’s civil rights.
