    And although students find ways to bring alcohol into the residence halls, to have the university sanction its allowance on campus could bring about many negative effects. Directors at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Aaron White and Ralph Hingson (2013) write about the consequences of alcohol use on college campuses in “The Burden of Alcohol Use: Excessive Consumption and Related Consequences Among College Students”. White and Hingson (2013) write that “Surprisingly, drinking levels have remained relatively stable on and around college campuses over the last 30 years” but drinking in college can lead to things such as “missed classes and lower grades, injuries…memory blackouts [and] changes in brain function”. Even though there are positive consequences of alcohol such as increasing socialization (which could help to improve school spirit) there are far too many negative consequences that could result from allowing alcohol on campus. As a matter of fact, a case study in the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership called “Homecoming at Atwater University” outlined an additional reason as to why allowing alcohol consumption at campus events can be consequential.
