    Radio Flyer Sacrifice

    • 649 Words
    • 3 Pages

It is hard to keep a commitment without making sacrifices. This can be seen by looking at a few elements of the movie Radio Flyer’s plot. Radio Flyer, directed by Richard Donner, is a film about two boys named Mike and Bobby, their mother and their abusive stepfather, who likes to be called The King. Mike, as the older child, promises to protect Bobby and help him achieve his goal of escaping from The King. First, Mike and Bobby sacrifice their safety by not telling their mother of The King’s abusive nature to keep the promise of making sure their mother is safe and happy. Then, when The King went to jail, their mother promised the boys would never see him again but wasn’t willing to make the sacrifice of letting The King go. Lastly, Mike sacrifices his time and also faces never seeing Bobby again just to hold the commitment of keeping him safe and happy. These points all prove that one has to make some sort of sacrifice to keep a commitment. To begin with, when Bobby and Mike see how happy their mother is with The King, they decide not to disturb their relationship by telling her about his abusive personality. As a consequence, while they do keep their commitment of taking care of their mother, they risk their safety. When Bobby is laying in bed after waking up from his nightmare, he tells Mike “I was afraid you’d tell mom. She’s happy now.” (Donner). This quote shows that the boys know their mother is happy with The King and that they are willing to sacrifice their safety…

February 6, 2015 will always be a significant day in my life. It was a Friday, and it was also the day my aunt Pam lost her life to a tough battle with multiple different types of cancer. It was heartbreaking news, and all I wanted to do after finding out was go lay in my bed and cry. However, that 's not what happened, and the day was long from being over. It was a sunny, somewhat chilly Friday afternoon, and I was supposed to be dismissed early from my 7th period class to board the basketball…

Best friends are the only thing in the world that stick by your side through the hard spells no matter what is occurring. They are the ones that tell you that look great in the morning, speak up for you when you do not, make you smile when no else can and they are the ones that love you for who you are. Best friends are a rarity just like diamonds and during my freshmen year of high school I met strangers that would soon become a fragment of myself and my family. These girls changed my life for…

"The Mug." He replies in a monotone. Is he concentrating or annoyed with me? Probably both. And even with the awful mood I 'm in, I can 't help feeling a tiny cheer go on in my mind when he answered with that. At least we 're going there. He pulls into the parking lot and parks near the door. I sit in my seat, still buckled, while Blake gets out of the car. I lean my elbow on the door, and rest my head in my hand and close my eyes. What is going on?! Camden screws me over, but maybe he doesn…

Daltyn watched Sterling saunter across the room after coming in the house. “Jer is in a talkative mood today. He wouldn’t shut his mouth the whole ride to school.” He smiled his cheshire-cat smile and sat unnecessarily close to her on the couch. “His name is Jericho, not Jer. You are not my father, nor will you ever be, so you don’t have the right to call him Jer.” Her hands formed into defensive and protective fists, but they stayed glued to her side. She wouldn’t dare to purposely hurt…
