back into my chair around the campfire. In the night, it tends to get briskly frigid and not that I don’t appreciate the chill of the nippy, crisp air, but the warmth of a campfire scares away the goosebumps from my arms and legs. As I sit in the deafening silence of the night, I breathe deeply and take in all that nature has to offer. The dampness and pungent aroma of the pine trees and the campfire guide me into a profound state of relaxation. Suddenly, I am caught off-guard and am startled by the animals of the night. The wolves are howling at their master, the moon, and the nocturnal owls awaken and welcome the evening, hooting to break the muteness. I begin to feel dozy as I adjust to nature’s form of music, so I decide it’s time for s’mores. I firmly grasp a stick and stab it into my marshmallow. As I hold it above the blazing fire, I turn it to make sure each side gets a pleasant golden-brown tint. When it’s perfectly done, I scrape it carefully between two graham crackers and throw in a piece of chocolate to top it off. Indulging into the ooey-gooey goodness is messy. Not to leave any of the appetizing treat behind, I lick my fingers clean slowly. The perfect food to savor around the campfire has left my belly content and my face full of chocolate. Licking my lips, the taste has me…

S'mores are a common food for my family to have all the time, especially in the summer. When I was in first grade,…

Did you know that there are many, many old, valuable traditions that the 7th graders at Camp Tapawingo carry out each year? These traditions take place during the campfire behind the lodge that we ate and slept in. There were two instances where we were using the campfire. We started the traditions at approximately 11:00 pm on September 15th, 2016. We did this by…

My brother and I also had to keep an eye on my 1 year old sister and our dogs, who were chained up to a tree, while our mom and dad went to the store for firewood, eggs, and bacon. So my brother and I went to bed at 10:34.…

finally arrived at the campsite. The car grinds to a stop, I put on my headlamp, and my fellow Scouts lead the way onto the campground. It is pitch black outside. Since this is my first camping trip, I am a novice at tent pitching. I am literally left in the dark. Unfortunately, my tent buddy is also reasonably new to the troop, and he is not quite sure what to do either. Since it is windy, the tarp that the tent will be erected on continues to billow and knock him over. It takes the both…
