and recall literally crying as the concert began. I finally had the chance to live my K-Pop dream of seeing my K-Pop idols in concert performing in person right before my very eyes, it was truly a dream come true. The concert lineup featured popular K-Pop groups such as Kara, MBLAQ, Sistar, f(x), Beast, Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls, Super Junior, and TVXQ (Sylphid “Concert Review”, par 1-2). After the concert my love for the genre only grew and one day I only hope to attend yet again another K-Pop concert. HISTORY: S.M. Entertainment, a leader in the globalization of K-Pop and the Korean Hallyu Wave, has successfully pioneered the genre into what it is today, a global phenomenon. S.M. Lee has since stepped down from being CEO in 2010, but is it active in the company and is the largest shareholder with a 21.3% stake. S.M. Entertainment has produced K-Pop’s top groups of the industry such as boy group H.O.T. in 1996, girl group S.E.S. in 1996, which both eventually disbanded. By 1998, the agency produced the popular six-member boy group Shinhwa who left the agency in 2003 but are still active in the K-Pop industry under their own company, Shinhwa Company. By 1999, S.M. had produced the R&B duo, Fly to the Sky, who also left the agency in 2004 but are still active within the K-Pop industry (Jung, par. 1-3; Seabrook, par. 32-37; Salmon, par. 1-12). By the…

Formal Essay Number 1 In Veronica Stafford’s essay “Texting and Literacy” (found on page 115 in the textbook) she discusses how she thinks texting has doomed the future. Cell phones have become such a staple piece in our culture in recent years that the act of text messaging during class is an occurrence that most students would be accustomed to. During the past few years, I have witnessed countless students typing out and sending text messages in the middle of a class. Although it seems like common sense that text messaging during class would have a more negative effect on grade rather than a positive one, I was interested to see if there was empirical evidence…

As a child, you never think what would happen if the time you spent with someone would be your last moments with them. When you said goodbye to that person, it was not supposed to be a permanent goodbye, but more like an “I will see you later.” Growing up as a child, I never thought about death or losing someone I cared about deeply. I thought that I would have that person in my life forever. Even as I got older I did not think much about death because it was hard to think about telling someone…
