After War World II the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was formed which incorporated Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, and Macedonia. Even if President Josip Broz Tito was able to maintain the individual states united and the different ethnic groups at peace, after his death war began. The new Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic wanted to create a Great Serbia, that entailed taking parts of Croatia and Bosnia. In order to create a Great Serbia, the Bosnian Serbs thought they had to eradicate the part of the Bosnian population who were Muslims. In 1992 Bosnia’s declaration of independence triggered the first attacks from the Serbian Separatists. During this war, mass killing, concentration camps, rapes and other sexual crimes were carried out. The most tragic events of the war were the siege of Sarajevo and the genocide at Srebrenica, where thousand of people were killed, and women were subjects to torture rape and other sexual acts.
