For obvious reasons students who skate will definitely be safer skating at the skatepark. But less obvious benefits can include students becoming more active and coming together as a group. For the universities benefit, building the skatepark green can help the universities reputation. It could possibly bring more students into the University, which would bring more money in. Studies also show that the community will benefit economically. Theoretically “When a skatepark opens… draw folks from the outlying communities to come bring their kids to the skatepark, do some shopping, maybe have lunch, buy some gas, ect.” (“The Top 6…”). All of these effect the community, University, and students in positive ways, but there are myths that are attached to the thought of building a skatepark. “The myth surrounding skateparks is that they are a breeding ground for crime and other illicit activities” (“The Top 6…”). In this case, it actually usually causes the opposite, “…when youth have nothing to do or nowhere to go – that is when they cause trouble” (“The Top 6…”) Students who have nothing else better to are usually the student who will cause mischief. can stop if we put skateparks in our communities because kids won’t have to ride in the streets. Skateparks should be built in every community because they provide a safe environment for the skaters instead of having to use the streets. Skateparks have also been shown to reduce property damage, and increase physical activity which has lasting health benefits. For these reasons, I think there should be a skatepark in your community. According to the website publicskateboardguide.org, “In 2009…

the frequent destination for my friends and I at the time, where most of our summers were spent at the skatepark. My lust to continuously go everyday conjured an issue, as on a day that had rained in the morning my fate encountered an unfortunate accident. On this fateful summer day, puddles filled the lower sections of the skatepark. But before I put the connection that rubber wheels on a Penny Board would hydroplane on water, Austin, one of my friends who I ventured to Fowler Park almost…

transportation there are many who use the planks to perform various technical maneuvers. It is typical to see someone of a young age seemingly aimlessly flipping their plank into the air and trying to land on it. The activity appears borderline masochistic as most of these attempts would result in injury yet they would happily continue trying. The plank riders or “skateboarders” that I observed appeared to have a religious attachment to their plank and many rituals surrounding the activity. …

I have been skateboarding for over 3 years now. Believe it or not, it has really taught me alot. I was around 11 years old when I had decided to start taking skateboarding seriously. This is when my passion for it had started growing and when I had began learning tricks and progressing. Some just began starting…

As I took my first step onto my local skatepark, the only thing that crossed my mind was “no way anybody skates that.” I was referring to the fourteen stair that was right in front of the entrance. Covered in pads with my skateboard in hand, I walked over to the seemingly endless drop and stared in bewilderment. “No way, this is huge. Maybe a pro could do this but that’s it” I said to myself. After some more staring, I was about to dismiss the thought but then I heard it - a shout coming from…

ethnicity or social standing. Skateboarding doesn’t. No matter who you are the skateboarding community will accept you. I have personally never met a skater who was mean and uninviting. The fact that skateboarders are friendly, come in such a diversity and are accepted by each other shows the true nature of the sport. Amazing. Skateboarders don’t…
