Often when adapting from a play into a movie, screenwriters choose to take a different approach to the narrative configuration of the work. Due to this, certain elements of the film and theater adaptations may present differentiations in meanings or themes. An example can be seen between the screen and stage versions of Six Degrees of Separation [1993]. Both are inspired by the true story of David Hampton, a young con artist who was able to convince elite Upper East Siders to open their homes to…

Social media have been around ever since 1997 but now it is starting to effect young minds. The first social media site that everyone remember is actually the website called Six Degrees. The name came from the ‘six degrees of separation’ theory which was from 1997 to 2001. Six Degrees allowed users to create a profile and friend other users. They also allowed people who didn’t register as users to confirm friendships and connected quite a few people this way. Even though the youth today do not…

When do you know when a line is crossed? Does the line get drawn once someone gets hurt or is it drawn before the problem even occurs. Additionally, if a person were to cross a line without the line being drawn whose fault is it, and when is it okay to cross this line? When it comes to Paul it seems that the word “Line” is not in his vocabulary. He crosses many people's lives causing emotions such as: Anger, Pain, Love and Sorrow. In the play, Six Degrees of Separation, many people would say…

The Black Dagger Brotherhood(BDB), is an ongoing book series (paranormal romance), that focus on the Black Dagger Brotherhood of vampire warriors who live together and defend their race against soulless humans called lessers. This series of books is my favourite and I wanted to show the connection each black dagger brothers had to each other and the blind king and how their families are connected. Therefore, I use the theory of “Six Degrees of Separation,” to show these connections. Blitzer,…

In this paper, I will try to make an understanding of how social media, like Facebook and Twitter, can affect the six degrees of separation. The six degrees of separation is a theory developed by Frigyes Karinthy, which states that every human being, or phenomena, is linked to every other, in five connections or less (five connections link six human beings). This theory started with the following mind game created by Frigyes (1929), How can I link, with three, four, or at most five links of the…

John Guare once said, “I read somewhere that everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. Six degrees of separation between us and everyone else on this planet.” In other words, every person is connected in some way, whether that is by a friend, family member or someone you spoke to on a waiting line. “Return to Paradise,” the movie, and the short story, “The Falls,” by George Saunders both relate to this quote as the main characters that are motivated to act a certain way…

6 Degrees of Separation: Jack Cole & Casey Nicholaw Six degrees of separation is a theory based on the idea that all people or things in this world can be “connected” through six steps or less. While it may be broad, and not always clear connections, it is very possible to connect any two people in less than six degrees. For this assignment, I will be connecting two famous dance choreographers: Jack Cole, and Casey Nicholaw. Though the two don’t seem to have much in common other than their…
