James Cameron’s Avatar is a very well-crafted film that exemplifies one of the darkest aspects of human nature; greed. The basic plot of the movie is that an ex-marine is sent to a far off world to work for a corporation mining a rare and valuable resource called unobtainium. However, the planet is inhabited by a primitive alien species that happens to live right on top of the largest deposit of unobtainium in the entire planet, and despite numerous attempts at negotiation, they refuse to cooperate. So what does the corporation do? They declare the aliens hostile savages, and burn their homes to the ground. One would certainly like to think that this is a very extreme and unlikely scenario, and that real people couldn’t possibly be that cruel. Sadly that is not the case, and there have been plenty of times in history where people have done terrible things to fill their pockets. There are plenty of scenarios in human history where people were deceived, subjugated, and slaughtered for economic gain. One scenario would be when the Spanish invaded America. They sailed to “The New World” (America) to find riches, and when they got there they did almost exactly what the corporation in Avatar did, except instead of aliens they encountered the Mayans, and instead of unobtainium they were after gold. Another example would be when Europeans settled North America. In that scenario the “unobtainium” was land, and the “aliens” where the Native Americans, and the Europeans ended up slowly…

It was around eleven p.m. when a disastrous earthquake hit everywhere in the United States. It devoured several cities including Newport Beach. That Earthquake was the start of the end of the of the strongest country in the face of Earth and maybe of the existence of humankind. Families and friends were separated maybe for some time or for the rest of their entire life. Billy was only a 16-year old boy whose family was killed by their own house. Billy was in shock. He knew he had to be smart and…

Her personality is the embodiment of the Badass sci-fi female protagonist Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) of the Aliens franchise. Mind you, this is not a prequel to the Alien films says Director Scott Ridley. But unlike Ridley’s “Rippley,” who sets out to eradicate all Xenomorph of the Alien movies. Shaw has a belief that life has ultimately a divine origin, and sets out to find the answers of it. Prometheus, does echoes many of the classic Alien’s technology such as hyper sleep chambers and a…
The movie I decided to watch for my Film Review was Avatar, written and directed by James Cameron. Avatar was presented by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and in association with Dune Entertainment, Ingenious Film Partners, and Lightstorm Entertainment. Written originally in 1994, and eventually get filmed in The United States and New Zealand, James Cameron watched his script get brought to life. Avatar was just another success on Cameron’s record, following Titanic (1997) that broke all…
A major theme in the film was rebirth- where a person is reborn spiritually, physically, and or mentally. The main character Jake Sully was the representation of that theme throughout the movie, where in the end he is physically reborn and now an Avatar. The film follows an ex-marine named Jake Sully who is paraplegic. He gets the opportunity to take his brothers place on a mission to a world called Pandora where he will be working with the scientists to learn, and understand the people who live…
Pandora’s environment is poisonous to humans, so Na’vi/human hybrids, appropriately called Avatars, are connected to human minds to allow unrestricted movement on Pandora. Jake Sully, one of the main characters in the film, is an ex-marine who travels to Pandora in place of his late brother. Dr. Grace Augustine is in charge of a team of scientists who are trying to find a diplomatic method of moving the Na’vi colony away from their geographic location (in order to mine unobtanium). Shortly after…
James Cameron movie, Avatar, struck the audience in a provoking way. The method Cameron made it seem that way was by challenging the protagonist, Jake Sully, to become involved with the Na’vi and do things he did not believe in after he had adapted to the Na’vi culture. Avatar is a case of imperialism, which has happened throughout history in the world. Various times occurred in history, a foreign country has been imperialized for their lands belongings for natives of a country. Countries take…
Q1. Both movies Gattaca and Wall-E showed different points of views for the future. In Gattaca nearly every person is born by eugenics and everything in his or her life revolves around what ones genetics are. If a person does not have the right genetics they are outcasts and considered undesirables. However, in Wall-E things are grim for earth. Humans have destroyed earth and are now living on a ship in space. These views of the future are much different as Gattaca presents a world that is still…
