    On May 12, 2008, what had seemed to be a normal day, turned into a nightmare in Sichuan, China. Buildings collapsed, people died, and survivors were completely traumatized. What had happened was a magnitude 7.9 earthquake that annihilated most of the southwest China. The epicenter of this disaster was located near the city of Dujiangyan. The earthquake was caused by the collision of the Indian-Australian and Eurasian Plates along the 155 miles long Longmenshan fault, thrusting the ground up by 29 feet. The earthquake in Sichuan had one of the most drastic influences on people, places, and China’s economy. The earthquake in Sichuan China took a massive toll on people in Sichuan. This earthquake “killed 87,587 and injured 375,000 (Deadliest Earthquakes 'of the 21st Century).” This was caused by the inability to escape from toppling buildings. This is the human toll that the earthquake of Sichuan had on people. The earthquake in Sichuan, China also had a massive social effect, mainly by the deaths that have occurred. “When people found their loved ones dead, they become devastated due to the sudden lost of loved ones.
