Cash got a College Scholarship, and is afraid something could happen if he told the truth. Jonas thinks no one will think Hartwell abused them, unlike Cash. Jonas and Cash know if they tell the truth, then all of the other basketball players would as well. Jonas is giving up all of his hard work to do right by Levi. He had everything going right for him, until Levi told Jonas what Hartwell did. Jonas has a division two college scholarship locked down, but since they figured out he failed classes he is losing it. “Nothing to do with the fact that because of him you’re going to lose your basketball scholarship” (440). He says the truth, and does the right thing when he tells the police the truth. When you follow your instinct things usually work out. “Shoreline Community College is the place you want to be, all right. I know the basketball coach there. I’ll give him a call and put in a plug for you. Shoreline is a good school too. I mean academically. It’ll prepare you for a four-year college.” Since Jonas lost his scholarship, and Levi, he knew he had to turn his life around.
