    the world have self defeating behavior, and if they choose to listen to the voices they will never achieve their goals. People are typically more critical of themselves than other people. They do not feel they are worthy of accomplishing their goals. To continue, much of what people value about themselves is based on their parents’ attitude toward themselves, “If we grew up with a self-hating parent, who often viewed themselves as weak or a failure, we may grow up with similar self sabotaging attitudes toward ourselves.”(Self-Sabotaging). Children are easily molded into believing what adults around them believe, so if the parental figure was self hating the child could become self hating as well. In conjunction, if the adult values hard work the child is more prone to have similar values. Children aspire to be like their parents and they look up to those who help them in life so, it is important for those adults to be self loving people who go after their dreams. At the beginning of The Alchemist Santiago finds out that his father has always wanted to travel which helps Santiago go after his dreams of traveling to live out his father’s dreams while also fulfilling his own dreams. Another part of self sabotage is that when looking back on times people self sabotaged they can identify that they changed their path to success.
