Jobs in tourism, planning, and energy are also formed. The largest of these job areas is tourism and indirect jobs that result from areas more attractive to cyclists. Cities that have high cycling value, and well established bicycle infrastructure, find these two areas to make up the majority of cycling related jobs. A study of Austria in 2009 estimates about 80% of jobs from cycling are here. This fact is true because of the overall impact higher levels of tourism have on economies. More traffic brings more jobs in hotels, restaurants, and other facilities. A study by the WHO looking at the pan-European Region compared cycling modal percentages of the capitals of each country and the estimated number of jobs currently existing as a result of this level of bicycle commutes. They looked at each of these values and estimated that if each city were to increase their modal percentage to that of Copenhagen, one of the leading cities, their potential number of new jobs that would result. They found that about 76,000 new jobs would be created. If we looked at Springfield, with an estimated cycling modal percentage of 1.2% and a population of ~165,000, it would be estimated to gain 500-600 new jobs if a similar increase in modal percentage occurred.
