    a sense she reaches for excellence. She will stand for nothing else. She shows how she is brave and will not back down. Excellence is something that comes natural to her because if she did not believe in herself, she would utterly fail. She is standing her ground, especially when she states “You may shoot me with your words, /You may cut me with your eyes,/You may kill me with your hatefulness,/But still, like air, I’ll rise. She shows excellence well just like excellence is shown in The Good Man. In The Good Man he shows excellence because he was a not only a father, but he was a Sargent. Excellence become key when having such a high ranking as a Sargent. Without excellence, nothing would get done and no one would look up to him for guidance. Even though excellence is clearly shown between the two readings it is shown differently. Sargent Shriver shows excellence in two ways as a father and a Sargent. He receives excellence for the roles he plays. While, in Still I Rise she shows excellence within herself. She shows that she does not need approve from anyone. Lastly, the final core value that is shown between the two readings is respect. Respect is highly important within the readings because it truly shows who they are. In Still I Rise, she shows respect, but she shows respect to herself. She will rise no matter what any harsh words comes her way. She knows that another person’s opinion really does not matter.
