The journey to Broadway began with a workshop in 2014. The workshop was in New York and featured Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, and Barrett Wilbert Weed. After positive reviews, “Waitress” shifter to the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a bit of a tryaout. The musical opened in August of 2015 and the production sold out, but before previews even ended, it was announced that the show would move on to Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March of 2016. Before the big move, the production witnessed several changes; the most prominent change besides some casting was the replacement of Chase Brock as choreographer. Lorin Latarro took up the job, adding more realistic elements to the show, along with added music by Sara Barielles, some changes to the book, and a change in lighting designer. Long story short, “Waitress” received a Broadway face-lift. The show is now scheduled to go on a US National tour, beginning at the Playhouse Square in Cleveland. An adaptation of Adrienne Shelly’s film of the same name, “Waitress” tells the story of Jenna (played by Jessie Mueller), a small-town waitress and pie maker stuck in an unhappy marriage. She becomes pregnant unexpectedly, and begins going to a gynecologist (as pregnant woman do). After a short time, she falls in love with her doctor (Drew Gehling) who, mind you, is also married, and a doomed affair ensues. Meanwhile her fellow waitress Becky (Keala Settle) is having an affair with the diner’s married cook…

Stay: Sara Bareilles I was raised by my grandmother, who spend an immense amount of time listening to me play the piano in our living room. Since the time I entered high school, Sara Bareilles has been my most listened to, piano played, and prefered musical artist. Bareilles’ song “stay” released in 2012 continues to be the most prominently meaningful, and produces the strongest emotional response compared to any other song, lyrical or otherwise. Not surprisingly, a great deal of the time my…

I thought it was going to long and I was going to get bored of the content. I actually really liked it and it wasn’t as bad as I thought I was going to be. Being a virtual concert viewer was a little different because it just made me want to be at the concert live. I will definitely view more concerts virtually because I had fun. I loved the concert I selected because all the performers had different genres which allowed me to hear a little bit of everything. I enjoyed all the performances and…

In times of despair the musical Waitress, music and lyrics written by Sara Bareilles, captures the sadness of true life troubles. The song “She Used To Be Mine” is a great example of that. The main character, Jenna Hunterson, sings this song in sorrow when she has an abusive husband and an unwanted pregnancy. During this song, she is hurt, lost and is trying to find herself again. This is why I decided to translate this piece into a teenager’s perspective with issues teenagers face in today's…
