As a pillar in the community, the Rec-N-Crew has facilitated and generated charitable funds to the youth and businesses of Blythe. Although working under the umbrella of The Joe Wine Blythe Recreation Center, the foundation continues to give back and nurture the Blythe and Palo Verde Valley community. History: In existence since the mid to late 1950s, The Blythe Recreation Foundation was formed, which would later encompass the Rec-N-Crew, a non-profit organization, which was formed to purchase necessities to improve the Joe Wine Blythe Recreation Center, as well as provide the center with supplies and equipment. With the cost once shared between the Palo Verde Unified School District and the City of Blythe, subsequently, as the years went by, the city began to take over funding and management. Having the city as the main financial contributor at that time, six, paid, full-time and one, part time employees with benefits were staffed with a budget of $620,000. However, as the economy took a hit in 2008, by 2009, funding for the Rec. Dept., was cut to the present budget of $260,000 per year. Yet, there are still employees, three to be exact with salaries totaling $95,000 and the operational cut back sat at $165,000. Being that there is a shortage of money, when fundraisers are held, the money raised is then deducted from the operational expense allotted to the Rec.
