The Sunday School Easter program was about to begin at Bethesda Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. For my last time speaking in front of the congregation before leaving for Tennessee State University (TSU), I was charged with introducing the speaker of the program. As I stood in front of hundreds of people to recite the introduction that I wrote, I was confident and thoughts of how far I had come since giving my life to Christ ran thru my mind. My spiritual journey began when I was about 5 years old when I decided to give my life to Christ. I did not realize at that time the impact this church would have on me in the future. This decision in my life changed everything for me, spiritually and educationally. Before I knew it, I was up in front of a mid-size (200 - 300) congregation reciting scripture, reading poems, and even singing solos in the Sunday School Choir. Being 5 years old and just learning to read. I stumbled over many words that may have seemed easy to others. I was not a very good reader. With the help of a few people in my church, I was able to rapidly progress in my reading and writing. A few years after I gave my life to Christ, leaders in the church started selecting me for main roles in plays and standing up in front of the congregation to speak on certain subjects during the 10:30 a.m. service. I played the Virgin Mary in many plays. In order for me to perform the part, I had to learn how to memorize the dialogue. For my first time playing the Virgin…

My father started to come home later each night. First it was eight, then eleven, midnight, and eventually I wouldn’t even see him until the next morning. I would call him to see where he was, and the response I would get was “I have one more customer I need to sell a car to, I’ll be home soon. I love you, baby girl.” And of course I believed him and went about my business. But at that moment I didn’t realize that soon would mean the next day when I’m watching Rocket Power and eating my Frosted…

Computational Fluid Dynamics Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is the simulation of fluids in engineering systems using modeling such as mathematical physical problem formulation and numerical methods like discretization methods, solver, numerical parameters and grid generation. Computational fluid dynamics is based on the concept of Reynolds averaging of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equation commonly known as (RANS) which are considered by Leishman to be the most adaptable method for…

moving in the air for a longer period of time. The smooth surface shows that that air is separated from the ball closer to the initial point of contact and leaves a larger vortex behind the ball compared to its smooth counterpart, creating a greater amount of drag. Reynolds Number Flow can generally be qualified by two different classifications of motion. Flow in a fluid (liquid or gas) can be observed as relatively smooth laminar flow where flow properties, such as pressure and velocity tend to…

experiment, key drag forces are the skin drag and pressure drag. The skin drag and pressure drag can be accumulated to get the total drag. The drag coefficient is the ratio of the drag force formed in comparison to the product of the dynamic pressure and area. It is a dimensionless quantity. The factors that affect the drag coefficient is the shape of the body, the roughness of the surface, the viscosity of the fluid and compressibility of the object. The viscosity of the fluid introduces the…

Fluid dynamics relating to bluff bodies, non-streamlined structures or streamlined bodies at large angles of attack, remains a critical focus of study within the fluid mechanics community. One particular area of interests involves the occurrence of fluid-induced vibrations, or more commonly known as vortex-induced vibrations (VIV’s), exerted on bluff bodies. Due to the production of vortex shedding beyond bluff cross sections, an alternating pressure distribution produces periodic fluctuations…

My “Bestfriend” “ So you won’t talk to me?” I asked him. He smiled down at the floor and nodded his head. He took a seat a couple of seats away from me.
