Tara Donovan is an American artist from Brooklyn, New York who creates sculptural installation art pieces out of everyday simple objects, such as plastic cups, paper plates, pencils, straws, and polyester film. Donovan transforms these ordinary everyday objects into large-scale installations which in some cases create a depiction of nature resembling landscape scenes including, mountains glaciers, icicles, rocks, and more. When Donovan was interviewed by Daniel Comiskey, he asked her, “Why use materials like electrical cable and plastic cups?” Donovan’s response was, “Everyday materials are easy to get and inexpensive. It's not really a commentary on the materials themselves. My interest in them is the shape, the transparency. It becomes a building block I work toward transcending the everyday object-ness of it.” One of Donovan’s installations made from everyday objects is Untitled, 2008, shown at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts. This piece is made up of folded and layered clear polyester film which fills a rectangular shaped hole cut into a wall of the gallery. The placement of the piece allows for natural light to shine through from Boston Harbor. The elements of art which can be seen in Tara Donovan’s piece are line, value, space, as well as many art principles. The first element seen in Tara Donovan’s installation piece is line. Line can be defined as a path of moving points and can vary in width, direction, and length. Lines often…

He read Thomas Malthus’s essay and from the reading figured out how species came about. He agreed with Malthus in that the population size of a species grows faster than the availability of resources. He also agreed that in animals that aren’t human, the population size of the species is determined by the amount of food available. Both facets lead to competition within the population and a “struggle for existence.” Darwin developing his theory of evolution is not something that he came about…
