    start of it. In 1986, Rulon Jeffs was one of the seven council members and slowly started to abolish it. Rulon ended up being successful and a new FLDS group was formed. Rulon wanted to be in complete control because he wanted it to be ruled as he saw fit. As most would suspect Rulon Jeffs was the new leader of this group. The “leader” is called the prophet (Goodwyn). The new FLDS group officially separated from the old FLDS in 1930, but was not officially recognized as a group of the Mormon faith till the early 1990s. The new FLDS relocated to “Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona” (Darger). In late 2002, Rulon Jeffs died of old age. With the prophet deceased somebody had to take over. That somebody was his oldest son Warren Jeffs (Goodwyn). No doubt, with Warren Jeffs as the new prophet, daily life in the FLDS is going to drastically change. To ensure that the changes are understood, one must. understand what the prophet is, and what they do. The prophet is believed to be the direct link to God, therefore, what he states is what God is telling him to say. The prophet controls virtually everything in the sect. One of the most basic rules the prophet demands is complete obedience. If Jeffs has the slightest idea that a follower is being disobedient, he will go as far as excommunicating them from the sect.
