Stories begin without us knowing, and they never end when we think they have. There’s a misconception that moments stop, but that’s impossible. Right now is connected to ten years ago, but it’s also attached to a million futures, no definitive length only indefinite time. So in every moment we begin again, continuing to mold our stories. Just another once upon a time. Learning is so much more than school to me. The typical system of education has little value in my eyes. We grow from reading between the lines and infusing passion into our environments. I couldn’t tell you in a neat format about my influences and learning stories, but I can tell you all about how I experience life because that’s where I believe discoveries and knowledge are conceived. We only get out of the world what we put in, so any passive idea of learning is ludicrous. Those that claw at the unknown, trading in time and energy will be gifted tenfold. It’s was stated in the Seven Principles of Good practice that, "Learning is not a spectator sport. Students do not learn much just by sitting in class listening to teachers, memorizing prepackaged assignments, and spitting out answers. They must talk about what they are learning, write about it, relate it to past experiences, apply it to their daily lives. They must make what they learn a part of themselves." Learning can’t really be forced or deposited, but facilitated with involvement, deprived of active learning the connections between new and past…
Flowers beautify the world and bring joy to those in it. Some people become inspired by flowers and write, sing, and talk about them. All of the literature that comes from flowers evokes many different emotions and touches on many different topics. Sometimes the writings can stem from sadness, enjoyment, forgiveness, or jealousy. Many of the greats of literature have written about flowers and used them to explore topics and themes that others may not touch upon. The poems “Asphodel, That Greeny…
height for a 16 year old, maybe a little more scrawny and immature. I could feel the dust that my hair was collecting after every five seconds of brushing the dust off. As I walked through the doorway to my right, I realized that this must be the formal dining room. An old, Victorian style table with eight elegant chairs was obviously the focal point of the room, resting on a beautiful green, gold, and red toned carpet. The hardwood flooring around it coordinated flawlessly with the elegant…
The red roses throughout American Beauty represents the desire for love and freedom. Even though red roses are a symbol of love and passion; in American Beauty we get to see that there is a lack of love and compassion for another. The burn ham family has forgotten what love feels like, all the family members are estranged from each other. But throughout American Beauty, we see red roses or the color red, and in those moments its when the character needs love the most. For example, the front yard…

The next morning came it was December 26, 2004 in just a couple of hours we will be laying my dad to rest. We had to be at Corpus Christi Funeral Home at 9am for the viewing. Following around 11am we would go in recession to bury my dad. When we got to the funeral home there were so many people. I saw some of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. I went inside to see my dad and when I walked into the room it was so quiet there was no noise. He had an American flag laid over the bottom…
redemption occur many times, but especially through the symbols of roses and rosebushes. Hester Prynne, the main sinner, is represented by these roses bushes when she walks out of the jail and a rosebush is flourishing. Through the novel Pearl and Hester are both referred to as “a wild rose-bush” at some point (Hawthorne 46). Unlike her mother, Pearl is not a sinner, but merely a symbol of Hester’s sin. Pearl also is represented by the rosebush outside of the jail, and she is also represented by…
single for life. Later on, Tita went to go find Nacha and she discovered her dead, her eyes wide open, medical leaves upon her temples, and a picture of her fiancé in her hands. The next chapter takes place in March and focuses on the recipe Quail in Rose Petal Sauce. After Nacha’s death, it is now Tita’s responsibility to be the head cook. Pedro brings her a bouquet of roses for her new position. Rosaura, now pregnant with her first child, sees Pedro give Tita roses and she immediately runs…
they go. “...hath come from the hand of God, to work in many ways upon her heart, pleads so earnestly, and with such bitterness of spirit, the right to keep her. It was meant for a blessing, for the one blessing of her life” (Hawthorne 105). Pearl was the one thing that Hester had in life no matter what. Joy was brought to Hester by Pearl from time to time and that helped Hester to keep on going in life. Pearl symbolized a rose to Hester. Despite Pearls “wilting” personality she could be…
That was a great time the smell of her peppermint perfume mixed with the rose was a one of a kind scent that I could only smell when she was around. Her roses were always beautiful and as she continued to get sick I would keep tending to the garden and she would sit in a chair outside and watch me and smile as I continued to do the things that she loved to do with me. This reminds me of the story we read in this course “Give me Five More Minutes” written by Christy De’on Miller. My Grandmother…
