    George Eastman, an American entrepreneur, was born July 12th 1854 in Waterville, New York. Two years after his father died the family moved to Rochester, New York where George dropped out of school aged 13 to work. He found a job at Rochester Savings Bank, earning the role of bookkeeper in 1877. Eastman was always careful around money, only spending it on his favourite hobby- photography. At age 24, George planned a trip to Santo Domingo, deciding to document it in pictures upon the suggestion of a friend. But the photography equipment by itself was so excessive in size and expensive, he invested in buying the equipment but never ended up going on the trip. The wet plate camera, also known as the wet collodion process, was an early photographic technique invented by Englishman Frederick Scott Archer in 1851. The process involved adding a soluble iodide to collodion- or cellulose nitrate- and coating a glass plate with the mixture. After being submerged in a silver iodine solution in a dark room it was then exposed in the camera and developed by pouring pyrogallic acid over it and fixed using a strong solution of sodium thiosulfate.
