    Analyzing the Past Most swimmers work hard throughout the swim season. Swimmers work hard to achieve goals for the end of the season. When the season is almost over, they will look bad on what they should or should not have done during the season. When Miss Havisham is coming to the end of her life, she looks back on what she could have done differently. In Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, there are many changes Miss Havisham could have made for herself and the people around her if she lived a little while longer. Miss Havisham is a rich lady who does not like most people. She especially hates her relatives who come to visit her on her birthday. The relatives come in hopes that Miss Havisham will leave them money in her will. Mathew Pocket is the only relative who does not come to visit Miss Havisham. Mr. Pocket is a tutor in London. Pip becomes one of Mr. Pocket’s tutees and Pip grows very fond of the Pockets. Pip, knowing that Miss Havisham does not like her relatives, tells her that Mr. Pocket and his son Herbert are very kind. He tells her this in hopes that she will be generous to them in her will. “ But she had wrote out a little coddleshell in her own hand a day or two afore the accident, leaving a cool four thousand to Mr. Mathew Pocket” (Dickens 201). This shows that she believes Pip’s word that the Pockets are nice people. Knowing that, she might try to meet them if she stayed alive. Meeting the Pockets could change Miss Havisham’s life.
