    Freddie Roach and Parkinson’s disease Of all the diseases that we have in this world, why did I choose Parkinson’s disease and Freddie Roach? Simply because I have been an avid follower of his since he handled the eight-division world champion, the fighter of the decade, and a Filipino professional boxer, Manny Pacquiao. I was dumbfounded when I found out that Freddie Roach has Parkinson’s disease. I was straightaway an enthusiast of his since knowing that he had Parkinson’s disease, and yet he made boxing champions in this era. According to the National Parkinson’s Foundation (NPF), “Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that progresses slowly in most people. Most people 's symptoms take years to develop, and they live for years with the disease”. It is also related to a loss of nerve cells in the brain to produce dopamine. Dopamine as defined is important factor in controlling movement. National Parkinson’s Foundation, NPF (n.d.) When diagnosing PD, the doctors will look at the presence of two of the four main motor symptoms. These main motor symptoms are 1. Bradykinesia, slowness of movement 2. Involuntary shaking or tremor at rest 3. The stiffness of the arms, legs or trunk and 4. The trouble with balance or falls also known as postural instability.
