    Members take part in workouts of the day (WODS) which are random and include one or more of the core elements. WODS are quick, usually lasting anywhere from five to 30 minutes, and are scored by either reps completed or time, to add an element of competition. With such a high intensity regimen and the ferocity of the competition, there are many safety concerns. Improper form and technique are major concerns, but also rhabdomyolysis is a present factor. Rhabdomyolysis is an extreme medical condition that occurs when your muscle cells undergo extreme conditions and actually explode and die. They percolate protein out into the bloodstream, including myoglobin. The kidneys do their job by cleaning the blood; however, myoglobin is not meant to be in the blood, so they easily overload the kidneys. This can cause severe damage and even death to all or part of the kidney. The muscles are not in good shape either; they are left swollen, weak, and dying. Sometimes, full strength can never be acquired again. CrossFit is not the only fitness area to be known for rhabdomyolysis, marathons are a common place as well. Technically CrossFit is a sport; however, there is much discussion to if that is true. A sport is considered any activity involving physical exertion and skill where an individual or team competes against others, usually for entertainment.
