A Helmholtz resonator is a rigid container which has an opening to the air surrounding it. A common example of a Helmholtz resonator is a bottle because it has a set volume as well as having an opening which is open to the surrounding air. By considering the Helmholtz resonator as having a neck, such as the neck of a wine bottle, the dynamics of the system may be described. When energy is introduced near the opening of the bottle, for example blowing across it, some of the energy will vibrate the cylindrical plug of air inside the neck of the bottle. This plug of air is assumed to move as a unit. This movement is due to the driving force of blowing across the bottle, the elastic force on the inner end of the plug, and the dissipation force.…

and Microwave Frequency Measurement of a ring Resonators was about finding the relative dielectric constant and the response of a ring resonator. These values are found by using a ring resonator and setting a frequency signal to the ring to resonate the signal. This lab also shows how to make the ring resonators from paper or any type of electric device from fabrication. Fabrication is used to print electric devices such as printed circuit boards. Printed circuit boards can be used for just…

The marimba, a popular percussion instrument, has not only a rich sound, but a rich history. The instrument, which has a name that means “wood sounder” in African languages and “the goddess” in Guatemalan creates it’s sound with wooden bars and metal resonators. The first idea for marimbas came from Africa.“The xylophone was taken to Latin America by African slaves…”(“Marimba”, Encyclopedia Britannica) Calabashes, or a type of gourd, were replaced in Latin America by resonators made of metal.…

Electrical and mechanical functions integrated in the nanoscale range led to the development of the new age devices, Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). These devices because of their size, they come with properties such as reduced mass, high quality factor (Q factor) and very high fundamental resonance frequencies. These qualities of NEMS makes them desirable for numerable applications such as components of signal processing devices, actuators and high speed sensors. NEMS can be used to…

professional can help. It'll take a few minutes to setup the instrument, then you'll be ready to play. Banjo Materials This particular banjo is created with quality materials. The rim is a three-ply maple, the resonator is maple and so is the neck. Maple is considered an incredible tonewood, which means that it has tonal properties of stiff, light woods for instruments. Maple is often used for stringed instruments like the banjo, violin, and guitar. Tenor 4-String There are two tunings…

called The Lakhovsky Multiple Wave Oscillator Handbook - which was updated and revised again in 1988, 1992, and 1994. The Handbook includes the compilation of informative articles by many authoritative MWO researchers, including articles by Lakhovsky himself, translated into English. The MWO produces a wide range of high-frequency pulsed signals which radiate energy into the patient via 2 resonators, one acting as a transmitter and the other as a receiver. The resonator is constructed from a…

destructive interference i.e. zero intensity. The LIGO interferometer is set up in such a way that the photodetectors measure zero intensity if the arms are of same length. The LIGO interferometer is a L-shaped interferometer, with each arm 4km in length. The longer the arms, the farther the laser has to travel which increases the sensitivity of the instrument. In order to measure a change in length that is 10000 times smaller than a proton, even an arm length of 4 km is not enough. To…

\textit{Recent experiments \cite{Rybalko_LTP,Rybalko_JLTP} reported another exceptional property of superfluid $^4$He, such as electrical activity that appears in the relative oscillatory motion of the normal fluid and superfluid components, or second sound wave.} A standing half-wave of second sound was generated by a heater, which was placed on one end of a dielectric resonator. The AC potential difference between an electrode that was placed on the opposite end of the resonator and the…

use during presentations to point out areas of the slide. Technically, the word laser is an acronym that stands for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation," but the word is so frequently used now that it is not capitalized anymore. The radiation is the light that is let out from the laser; this light can be able to be seen or not able to be seen to the human eye. Technically, only some lasers use light amplification, but the word laser is still used for a device that makes…

figure’s left. It is difficult to discern the shape of the body (resonator), but it appears to be circular. The neck of the instrument is significantly longer than the body of the instrument. This would have allowed for more precision in intonation since the distance between tones and semitones on the neck would have been greater than if the instruments total length were shorter. The best way to understand this concept would be to consider modern string instruments: playing a half step on…
