This event that took place was a time to gather and reflect on the wars that took place and the people who fought in them as well as the lives that were lost. The ceremony was one that is directly related to this course due to the readings that were about war and Canadians fighting in them. The march of veterans and RCMP was a time to reflect…

Not once have I seen ANYTHING from Veterans Affairs, the legion or even from an actual veteran that putting up Christmas decorations before Remembrance Day is disrespectful to them. So why is everyone “quoting” these veterans and saying it is? If it is, let the veterans tell us themselves. Any veteran or current serving military I’ve actually talked to doesn’t find it disrespectful, in fact most of them put Christmas decorations up before November 11th. What I find disrespectful is everyone…

More Americans have heard of Oskar Schlinder, a businessman of Germany who employed more than 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust in efforts to keep the Nazi party from taking them to concentration camps, than they have heard about a Japanese diplomat named Chiune Sugihara, who broke his country’s laws in order to let more than 6000 Jews avoid territories in Japan that had been occupied by the Nazi party. Remembrance Day On November 11th, Canadians all across the country stop to remember all of the men who died and suffered in war to help the Canadian civilians. We are thankful for all the veterans and families, our freedom, by wearing a poppy. The veterans were not the only ones who suffered, for war has no respect for age or sex. Mothers and siblings suffered. Each family dreaded a telegraph boy showing up at their door, for it meant only two things, injury or death. People knew their…

The best experiences that I found were really interesting went on throughout the days of me helping out there. They were the stories that the residents told. I was at the houses over Remembrance Day and that week and I based some of the activities that I had done on the topic of remembrance. One lady grew up in England and went into the army at age 17. She was one of the many nurses working in the army at the time. She told me different stories about her time in the army and some of the…
