entertaining people using the fine arts. To become a geisha, the process begins with making the decision to becoming a geisha. In the early ages of the geisha, their training would have begun at the age of 13, but because of different laws and reforms in japan, it now starts at the age of 16. In making that decision, they agree to move away from home, live in an okiya (a geisha house), and learn the intense ways of the geisha. A girl who begins her training before the age of 21 is called a…
The visual style of the ukiyo-r print is very similar to the performance style of the Kabuki theater. The two pieces of art both share the same coloring. The emotions in the theater are also represented in the ukiyo-r print. Both forms of art show what life was like during that time period. The ukiyo-r print and the performance style of the Kabuki theater are very similar forms of art that have the same colors, emotions, and story. The colors in the ukiyo-r print and the performance style of…
Sometimes it would be good to examine a frame by looking at the structure. The subtitles of the wartime chapter in the book are "Japan and Manchou", "Wave of the Crisis", "Liberty and Violence", "Dictatorship of Army Headquarters", "the War against China" and "the Pacific War". The clue behind these subtitles is the history of Japanese militarist. In the chapter of "Japan and Moanchou", the book introduces the militarists and their efforts to fight China. The chapter of "Wave of the Crisis"…
AWOL #3 (By Alix Spiegel for NPR, 11-12-12) Jim Stigler was sent to japan from university of michigan to test how others countries education is different from the education that american kids get. I strongly disagree with what Jim says about japan's kids versus american kids, how he put it as were just robots just following instructions under programing and to say that means he would have to take out all of the feelings all the way up to the brain control, and yes americans kids do no…
In 784, the Japanese Emperor Kammu moved his court from the monastery of Nara and established a new capital in which he was able to rule better and allow Buddhism to grow. The bunraku and kabuki play Double Suicide in Amijima was adapted into a film titled Double Suicide in 1969. The film is a very interesting and artistic mix of modern film technique and illusions to the bunraku genre of traditional Japanese theater. Throughout the film, darkly-clothed stagehands and puppeteers, or kuroko, can be seen with their faces covered. In bunraku, kuroko cover their faces to not distract the audience while maneuvering the puppets; however, the lead puppeteer with decades…
Japanese Edo Period Art The Edo period had a lot of importance & impact on Japan as it helped flourish its culture by cutting off the west and isolating itself, with the help of many Schools of Japan learning new techniques in art which would become the norm for today. A lot of the impact was on the social classes, as artists started to become noticed, and recognised for the art they created. The points to discuss will be on ‘who’ to talk about. First, I’ll look at Hoitsu & Buncho from Edo as…

Deshima Prostitute with Fan is a good example of Nagasaki-e prints, which are recognizable through their depictions of Dutch people, ships and exotic animals. A derivative of the popular Ukiyo-e print genre, Nagasaki-e prints were…
It is widely known that different industries accommodate to different levels of profitability, determined by the industry structure; and it is not different in the automobile industry. There are four basic forces constantly interacting with one another to promote innovation and drive domestic competition. In the run to cut costs and increase competitive advantage, automobile companies in the United States operate under two-tier wage model. Fiat Chrysler (FC) is under scrutiny as it deals with…
events before and during the tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011 in Japan. An earthquake is a release of stress that is located in the earth’s interior. The earthquake is activated when there is a quick movement over a fault causing the tectonic plates to shift (Rothery, D, 1997, p.31, 33, 42, 44). The very strange events occurring in Japan included strange animal behavior recorded, many beaching incidents in and around japan, the destruction, and the scientific studies of this Tsunami. The…
