On April 18, I braved the blizzard-like conditions and attended Viterbo University’s Visiting Artists Chamber Music Concert held in the Nola Starling Recital Hall. This concert included celloist Stepan Filipek and pianist Katelyn Bouska. There was a wide range of contemporary music played by the duo including “Cello Sonata, op. 6)by Samuel Barber, “Pohadka” by Leos Janacek, “Klid Lesa, op. 68” and “Rondo for Cello and Piano, op. 94” by Antonin Dvorak, “On an Overgrown Path” by Leos Janacek, “Dos…

Twelve years after leaving the military service, Brigadier General Felix A. Brawner (Ret) on June 10, 2000 of the Scout Ranger fame gave his debut recital in Camp Aguinaldo at the Association of Generals and Flag Officers (AGFO) center. The explanation of General Brawner as to why it was entitled as “No guts, no glory” is simple when a person for the first time that he will perform on stage there is a possibility of trembling because of fear that is not far to happen. But if the person has the…

I attended the concert in the Singletary Recital Hall in Lexington, KY. Located on the University of Kentucky campus it is the home of an art museum and recital hall. Many music majors spend time in this venue honing their listening and performing skills. The individual who performed today was a member of the University of Kentucky faculty. The hall was a great venue to enjoy classical music. There was plenty of seating available, audience was excellent and they were very respectful to the…

The two performances of Tari Wiranata, live and recorded, are very similar. The difference is whether you are sitting in front of a live production, or if you are watching a recital through a computer screen. The performances both include very unique uniforms, scenery, dancers, and music timbre. But what you miss out on when watching a recording, is hearing the live gamelan sounds flood around you and all the energy in the concert hall. Over all, I prefer the live version. The melodies in both…

On Monday, October 19th at 7:30pm, I attended the USA Piano Ensembles “Fall Concert” at the Laidlaw Recital Hall. The concert contained five different pieces of music. The first piece of music performed was called “Die Fledermaus Overture.” This piece was composed by Johann Strauss (1825-1899) and it was arranged by Makoto Goto. The piece was played by Tracy Monk and Tobin Nelson on one piano. One person was seated next to them and they would turn the page while they played the piece. The piece…

to their wardrobe. Country dancing outfits are adorable for the little one who dreams of being a cowgirl, or cowboy. These outfits can be worn for dress-up fun during playtime, or for school plays. They're also wonderful for wearing during dance recitals, or competitions. Add a cute cowboy hat to match the dress and she'll be ready to belt out her favorite country music song. Adults who are heading out for a night…

God has blessed these performers with beautiful voices and talents, and it was really nice to know that even though a big crowd wasn’t in the main Chapel to listen and applaud them , they all tried to put there all in it. This had shown the passion they have for what they are doing. For The lunch hour concert, musicians were a on a low energy which the few of us in the congregation was feeding off on. However, without a doubt the performances were clear on their actual role or part. I do…

Honestly, A Love That Multiplies written by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar is one of the worst books that I have ever read. I have a very difficult time reading autobiographies to begin with because they seem to be extremely boring. This book, though, is the slowest jumbled mess that I have ever gotten the unfortunate chance of laying my eyes on. I loath this book. If you enjoy reading about a “real” family’s chaotic yet somehow perfect life that is unbelievably functional, then this read is…
