also be used as a means of remediation. Remediation focuses on teaching a topic in an alternative way. XP Math reinforces material, while teaching it to students in a different more accommodating way. For example in the activity titled “roll back number line” it shows the children the many alternatives of how you can express your answer. I think this site would be a good practice for ELL students. Being that there isn't much language on the site, I think this site would be most effective…
which was the first printed account of what we know now as coordinates or analytic geometry (C.H. Edwards). In many books he wrote, Descartes wrote very small alphabets in front of numbers which suggests his use of variables and constants. He also created the use of superscripted numerals to depict the powers of a number or quantity; Descartes occasionally wrote aa for the second power, a2. In addition to these wonderful contributions, Descartes also utilized geometry to find the slope of the…
Introduction Mathematics is a necessary aspect of my life. In my home, work, school and even social environments, numbers surround me. Over many years, I have learned how to derive meaning from them or use them to help me figure things out. During this unit, I have learnt, re-learnt and applied various areas of mathematics to help me achieve the outcomes and find solutions to each ‘Thinking Time Problem’ [TTP] presented. These relate to the Australian Curriculum- Mathematics proficiency strands…
of William of Orange, and was later asked to be his tutor. Stevin was also responsible for creating a number of Prince Maurice’s textbooks, along with his tutoring duties. After the assassination of William of Orange…
have to solve a problem to get the numbers out. The problem is 4(5+2x)-5=3(3x+7). First our mathematicians figured out 4 times 5 and 2x also 3 times 3x and 7 and reduced it to 20+8x-5=9x+21 then they subtracted 20-5 which reduced the problem to 8x+15=9x+21 then they subtracted 8x with 8x and 8x with 9x and written down its 15 =x+21 and then finally they -21 with 21 and 21 with 15 and got -6=x There is still no word on if the robbers are going to release the numbers but we will let you know as…
structures according to certain rules . Originally these elements would put be interpreted as numbers or quantities, so that the algebra somewhat originally was a generalization . The adjective " algebraic " usually denotes a relationship with algebra , such as in algebraic structure . For historical reasons, it may also indicate a relationship with the solutions of polynomial equations , algebraic numbers , algebraic extension or algebraic expression. It AGREES distinguishes between :…
I have found that number talks are really helpful for building number sense as well as assessing number sense. When I use number talks in my classroom it allowed me to easily see gaps in understanding with some of my students. Simply learning math facts through memorization is not very helpful. I can't count the number of times that I have memorized facts of some sort for a test and then promptly forgotten all of the facts after finishing the test. Our brain just doesn't work that way. If we…

Development Course and math Content Standards (Common Core or State) Provide the standards and performance indicators to be covered by this lesson, cite the numbers and the text. If only a portion of a standard is being addressed, then only list the part or parts that are relevant. This math lesson falls under the Tennessee Mathematical domain of the number system. Standard 3. Fluently add and subtract multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation. Learning Objectives…
passing time have all been a part of earlier human civilizations. Prehistoric artifacts dating back over 20,000 years have suggested that early humans made attempts to quantify time. Therefore, it is no accident, that the abacus is based of the number 10; ten fingers or ten toes. As civilizations flourished mathematics as we know it today grew out of the desire and or need to count larger and larger time frames or quantities. As civilizations settled and developed agriculture…
