College as a whole is not at all what I expected it to be like, just because I was able to wake up early for highschool it doesn’t even equal up to waking up early for a college class. Being a freshman I didn’t know what to really expect from college except from what I seen on tv. I’m a biology major currently taking five classes, Biology 131, Biology 160, Core 101, Math 138, and University 100. I was originally in six classes, but to take some of the load off that I had I decided to withdraw for Chemistry 101. My major requires more time outside of class than originally thought. For Biology 131 the main expectations for this class is to attend all classes and labs, and keep up with all the material being taught. In Biology 160 the expectations are to be prepared to learn, attend and participate, get help if needed, and…

I admit, I’ve always been a bit of an introvert. In high school, if there was an opportunity to lead or stand out, I hurried in the opposite direction, I was too self-conscious to participate in any situation where I might fail or face abashment, and I particularly avoided events where I would have to interact with people. Athletics is a critical part of a child's development and many athletes resort to their sport skills to enter college and pay for it. Many people ask how can their sons or daughters become better at their favourite sport to be successful with it in their future. In a discussion about the paradigms of public education, Ken Burns addresses the controversial topic of cultural education. Public education is experiencing a time of confusion in helping children develop cultural identity so the new generation can continue to play an important role in globalization. This confusion causes an immediate reaction: continue to do what has been done in the past--instruct children to work hard, do well, and earn a college degree, then they will get a job. Many…

I have observed many children who have dropped out of college because they were not ready for the freedom of being on their own. I remember my next door neighbor only let her son attend a local community college. The other children attended colleges and universities far away from home, but he went to school nearby. The reason behind that is because his mom wanted to make sure her child was prepared for college mentally. She didn’t want her son to drop out because of parties, and not keeping up…
