    Racism is everywhere you look in today’s society and all over the history books. Racism is defined as prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. It is a tool with which people use to distinguish themselves from one another, where some use it to purposely inflict verbal, physical or mental attacks on others to just be vile and hateful while others use it to simply distinguish or differentiate from one another. The author of “Fences” August Wilson was accused of plagiarizing a paper during his time in high school because the principal believed it was too sophisticated to be his own work which would later lead to him dropping out of school. The Novel “Fences” takes place in the 1950s which was a time when racism was viewed as normal act. “Fences” was written by August Wilson to portray the life that African Americans were living back during that time and how it affected their lives.
